MyMovies
MyMovies is a website I built in 2008 because I was tired of not knowing I had seen a movie or not. It started out as a simple list of movies in a database, with just a simple button to add movies. No checks or extra information about the movie was added. This was my first encounter with PHP/MySQL.
After a smooth start I started adding features to edit and remove movies. I also added information about the length of the movie, so I could measure how many weeks of my life I had wasted watching movies.
As time went by, I heard several people who were interested in having a movielist of their own. So I decided to add user management to the system. MyMovies was born.
Since then the website became a lot more popular and was enhanced with options to compare your movie-list to the IMDb top 250 or view which movies have been seen the most. Furthermore I built a small IMDb wrapper, which retrieves the movie's poster and plot from the IMDb site.
While developing MyMovies, I discovered that developing PHP websites with MySQL and Smarty is actually really quite simple. Since then I've been searching for new options to use this knowledge. Building this website in 2008 has been a big step in my learning proces.
